Ability to Achieve

Our AGE Program provides specialised youth foster care support in Sydney, designed to help children and young people settle safely and confidently into their new environment. We work closely with foster families, caseworkers, and support networks to ensure every child receives the emotional, behavioural, and practical assistance they need during this important transition.

Through a structured, trauma-informed approach, our team delivers youth foster care services tailored to each child’s circumstances, helping them feel secure, understood, and supported. Whether a child requires help adjusting to a new home, managing emotional challenges, or building daily living skills, our program ensures they receive compassionate and consistent care.

We also provide NDIS-aligned foster carer support, offering guidance, behavioural strategies, and 24-hour assistance when required. Our goal is to strengthen foster placements, empower carers, and promote stability, safety, and long-term wellbeing for every child entering foster care

Partnership with Ability to Assist

At Ability to Achieve, we believe that strong support systems create better outcomes for children in care. That’s why we proudly partner with Ability to Assist, a charity committed to ensuring that every child entering the foster care system in Sydney has access to essential items and a sense of belonging.

Many children experience multiple placements and often move with very few personal belongings. Through this partnership, young people receive vital resources such as toiletries, school supplies, clothing, sporting equipment, and proper luggage, helping them feel prepared, valued, and supported from day one.

This collaboration enhances our youth foster care services by providing both practical essentials and emotional reassurance. It reinforces the message behind their motto, “It takes a village,” reminding each child that they are not alone, there is a compassionate community standing beside them.

By combining our specialised foster carer support with Ability to Assist’s commitment to meeting basic needs, we ensure every child experiences safety, dignity, and consistent care throughout their journey.

Children in Foster Care

Across Australia, thousands of children rely on the foster care system for safety, stability, and support. Many come from environments affected by trauma, instability, or neglect, and are in need of compassionate, consistent care. With a growing number of children entering out-of-home care each year, the need for reliable foster care support in Sydney has never been greater.

At Ability to Achieve, we recognise the challenges these children face, from frequent placement changes to emotional and developmental disruptions. Our programs are designed to provide immediate, trauma-informed support that helps children feel safe, valued, and understood during one of the most uncertain periods of their lives.

Every child deserves a secure foundation. Through our specialised youth foster care services, we work to ensure that each young person receives stability, care, and the guidance they need to rebuild trust and move forward with confidence.

Criminal Justice System

Young people who have spent time in foster care often face challenges that can increase their vulnerability to entering the criminal justice system. Experiences such as trauma, instability, disrupted education, and a lack of consistent emotional support can significantly impact their long-term wellbeing and decision-making.

At Ability to Achieve, we recognise these risks and work proactively to break this cycle. Through early intervention, trauma-informed care, and consistent behavioural and emotional support, we aim to reduce the likelihood of justice involvement for young people in out-of-home care.

Our dedicated team focuses on building stability, strengthening coping skills, and promoting positive pathways, helping young people feel supported, valued, and equipped to make safe and empowered choices. By providing the right guidance at the right time, we help create opportunities for young people to thrive rather than become statistics.

Breaking the Cycle

Breaking generational patterns of vulnerability is essential for creating brighter futures for young people leaving foster care. Research shows that former foster youth often face ongoing challenges that can affect their journey into adulthood. A 2020 report by the Australian Institute of Family Studies revealed that approximately 25% of young people who age out of foster care later have their own children come into contact with child protection services.

At Ability to Achieve, we work to interrupt this cycle by providing consistent guidance, emotional support, life-skills training, and safe environments for young people. Our team  focuses on helping them build stability, resilience, and independence, empowering them to create stronger, safer futures for themselves and their families.

DRUG AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Young people with a history of foster care are at a higher risk of substance abuse. Research shows that up to 40% of former foster youth face challenges with drugs or alcohol, often linked to trauma, instability, and lack of support.

At Ability to Achieve, we provide trauma-informed counselling, life skills training, peer support, and referrals to specialised services to help young people overcome substance use and build a healthier, positive future.
