Māori Cultural Training in Sydney

Kohanga Reo (0–10 Years)

Kohanga REO, which translates to ‘language nest’, is designed to immerse children in the Māori language and culture from a young age. This program focuses on retaining and promoting te REO Māori (the Māori language) while fostering a deep connection with Māori heritage.

Through interactive learning and culturally relevant activities, children develop language skills, cultural understanding, and a sense of identity in an environment that reflects traditional Māori learning and teaching styles. Our kohanga REO program in sydney offers a safe, supportive space where children can explore their roots, develop confidence, and enjoy learning through play, storytelling, and song.

Kaha (10–18 Years)

The Kaha program in Sydney is designed for Rangatahi Māori (Māori youth) aged 10–18, helping them express, celebrate, and strengthen their Polynesian heritage through Kapa Haka, māori cultural training program in sydney, history, and contemporary arts.

Participants in this program will:
-Learn popular traditional Māori action songs and dances
-Explore dancing with the Poi (soft balls on long strings)
-Participate in Tī rākau (Māori stick games) and Haka
-Understand and practice Powhiri (Māori welcome ceremonies)
-Discover their Pepeha (ancestral origins) and create a keepsake to take home
-Engage with storytelling about creation, the first women, and connection to the land and sea
-Study New Zealand and Māori history, including the Treaty of Waitangi
-Learn Māori language through flashcards, songs, and game-based activities
-Understand Marae protocols, Tapu, Mana, and the role of kaitiaki (guardians)
