At A2A, we are proud to have a dedicated team of highly experienced youth workers who are passionate about building meaningful relationships with children and young people. Our team members understand the importance of connecting with youth in a respectful and engaging way, allowing them to feel comfortable and supported in their journey.
Our youth workers are trained to provide a range of fun and stimulating activities that are designed to help young people navigate the challenges of everyday life. Whether it’s helping with homework, engaging in sports or creative activities, or simply offering a listening ear, our team members are there to support and guide young people as they pursue their goals.
We also offer a mentorship program that connects kids in care with older kids who have left the system. No one understands what they’re going through better than those who have experienced it themselves. These older mentors guide the younger children, providing them with the reassurance that they’re not alone in their journey.
We believe that building a positive and trusting relationship with a young person is the foundation of success in any youth program. That’s why our youth workers take the time to get to know each child or young person they work with, listening to their concerns and goals, and developing a personalized plan to help them achieve success.
Our youth workers are skilled in providing short-term and long-term support to young people, helping them develop the life skills they need to thrive. Whether it’s providing guidance on managing emotions, improving communication skills, or developing independence, our team members are dedicated to helping youth become confident, capable adults.
Madeline entered foster care at the age of eight. She was separated from most of her siblings, but thankfully, she was able to stay with her twin brother.
Madeline experienced several placement breakdowns before she was placed with John and Moana, who became her foster carers. Like many children in care, Madeline displayed challenging behaviors due to the early trauma she endured.
These complex behaviors can be difficult for foster carers to manage, often leading to placement disruptions.
Tragically, Madeline lost both of her foster carers, with John passing away last year. Today, she lives full-time with Ability to Achieve, where we provide her with a home she can truly call her own. At A2A, we strive to provide a second family.
Christina has been in care since she was a young child, frequently moving from one home to another.
Each time, she hoped for stability, only to face disappointment as placements broke down. Christina lived with us for two years, and she looks back on her time with us fondly. We love hearing the stories from staff about Christina—she definitely kept us on our toes, but her cheeky laugh always won everyone over.
